COVID-19 AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

(1) Background:


- COVID-19 means Corona Virus Disease 2019.

- COVID-19 is a fatal virus.

- Started at Wuhan, China.

- Spread to the world.

- Took the form of a pandemic.

- Carried to Pakistan by pilgrims from Iran and students from China.

- Infected over 2 lacs people in Pakistan.

- Infected over 1 crore people in the world.

- Over 5000 died of it in Pakistan.

- Over 500,000 died of it in the world.

- Thesis statement: Though at present it has had a drastic negative impact on the social lives of the people and the economy, yet there is the hope that it will, sooner or later, be defeated. 


(2) Symptoms of COVID-19:


According to World Health Organisation:

- Difficulty in breathing

- Dry cough

- Fever

- Tiredness

- Sore throat

- Nasal congestion

- Runny nose


(3) Safety measures against COVID-19:


- Wear mask

- Social distancing

- Avoiding congested places and gatherings

- Maintain 3 feet distance from the people

- Use of sanitizers

- Washing hands for 20 seconds

- Self-quarantine


(4) Treatment of COVID-19:


- No vaccine has been discovered so far.

- Strong immune system can be of help in getting recovered from COVID-19.

- Researchers are burning mid night's oil to discover vaccine.

- Many rumours regarding treatment of COVID-19 but most of them are ineffective.


(5) Is COVID-19 a chemical weapon?


- A conspiracy theory not based on facts.

- Because it has affected the entire world and not a single country.

- If it had been a chemical weapon it would have affected a single country.

- No country would use such a weapon against the enemy country that will bounce back and affect its own country.


(6) Effect of COVID-19 on social life:


- Decrease in social intercourse.

- People confined to their homes.

- An atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

- Closure of schools, colleges and universities.

- Parks and other public places are deserted.

- Hotels and cinema houses are shut.

- People have started following religious injunctions with zeal and zest to please Allah so that He may keep them safe from COVID-19.


(7) Impact of COVID-19 on economy:


- Trade has stopped due to lockdowns.

- Shops have been closed.

- Transport sector has shrunk.

- Daily wagers have become jobless.

- Businessmen have suffered huge losses.

- Hoarding has caused shortage of articles of daily use.

- Prices of various items have soared.


(8) Salute to doctors and paramedics:


- Doctors and paramedics are the frontline fighters against COVID-19.

- Despite limited resources they are trying their level best.

- They are serving the patients at the cost of their own lives.

- They have lost their lives through the course of this struggle.

- They have been paid rich tribute all over the world.

(9) The laudable role of NDMA:


- National Disaster Management Authority has left no stone unturned in facilitating the state machinary in this war against COVID-19.

- NDMA is playing a key role in coordinating the efforts of various branches of the state machinery against COVID-19.


(10) Worthwhile efforts of Ehsaas Programme:


- Through Ehsaas Programme, the Government of Pakistan has distributed handsome pakages among the poor and needy in this hour of distress.

- Daily wagers who became jobless were given financial aid for sustenance.


(11) Suggestions for tackling COVID-19:


- Preventive measures should be conveyed to the people through press and electronic media.

- Steps must be taken to ensure that people comply with the preventive measures.

- Lockdowns should be implemented in letter and spirit.

- Teachers and students should be facilitated to make online teaching a success.

- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for burial of dead bodies of those died of COVID-19 should be laid down in black and white and strictly enforced.

- Researchers must be facilitated to carry out research for the discovery of vaccine.

- Allah's help sould be sought in this difficult situation by seeking forgiveness of our sins.


(12) Conclusion:


- Where there is a will, there is a way. If we have the indomitable will to win the war against COVID-19 with forbearance and perseverance, we are sure to survive this dismal pandemic.
